Making a Difference
About
“The hospital has lost our newborn son's remains.
They left us a voicemail to tell us.” - Shatzer 2021
Suppose I may ask for a moment of your time.
I'll put my intentions first, then provide the why and drive if that's ok.
I want to enact change.
The remains of a baby, or any other human being, should never be treated as if they are medical waste; Burned in a bio hazard furnace, like…..
Like our son.
Civil liberties should play part in bereaved families’ care, right?
Every hospital in the state of Arkansas, if not in our country, should have a mandated requirement for bereavement support specialists to be a part of what’s considered complete and adequate staff. (See chart below)
Also, individual staff with direct patient access should participate in bereavement care classes by completing the minimum policy recommendations. Policies that include the recommended support and Clinical counseling classes.
Authentic Empathy and compassion might not be able to be instilled into The staff in their entirety, but they can be taught and implemented in the care of patients. It is an Attainable goal, one that should already be in place but sadly is not. Additionally, my mission goes hand in hand with my goals. My goal is essentially creating a solution that doesn’t yet exist; an alternative to what happened to us. Preventing additional trauma from happening to newly bereaved families, or anyone else is exactly what I intend to do.
This is what bereavement support for each and every person affected by loss should look and feel like:
Modified from Sands Australian Principles of bereavement Lare: Miscarriage, Stillbirth and Newborn Death, 1st edition, May 2018.
Foundations of Bereavement (PDF)

Jase Journals~A guide to guide you, right now, so you can heal later.

Our story is a hard read but it's not that long. If you would, Please, I ask you to read it. Well for no better reason than because our baby deserves to be spoken for.

"In honor of him, I fight for his respect.
In memory of him, I fight for my tomorrow.
In honor of his memory, I fight for the next family.
I will fight in hopes of preventing their lives from falling victim to such anguish.
I am constructing the guided journals for those who are or will suffer loss, so I can impact ways the devil himself can't take life from the living souls that loss leaves behind."
